Booking Through Thursday

btt button

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme that asks book related questions. Here is the one for today

“Are you ashamed of skipping parts of books?”

Do you skip ahead in a book? Do you feel badly about it when you do?

I personally am not a skipper but more of a skimmer. If you skip then you could be missing something important . I only skim when it's something too technological or historical. Basically I skim when the "whole less is more" should have been used. I think sometimes authors include way to much and risk the chance of people skipping a page or two. I do not fell bad when I skim because I'm still reading the majority of the words on the page , just not focusing on them as intently.

So tell me do you skip or skim, or are you one of those super good readers and read every last word?

Totally agree on the skimming over technical stuff or wordiness. Here's mine: http://www.theonceandfuturelibrarian.blogspot.com/2012/01/booking-through-thursday-do-you-skip.html

I should have added historical blah blah to my answer.

Thanks for following, I'm following back.

Hey Tristen! Great question :) I completely agree with you about skimming. I learned to read quickly through details that either distracted me in the story or didn't interest me at all when I was in college. I do the same in novels now and it really helps when you get stuck during a slow part of the book or when you come across extensive details that are unnecessary.
Thanks for posting this question! All readers/writers will appreciate this :)

I sometimes skip, sometimes skim, sometimes read every word -- just depends on how involved I am in the book. But generally, if I find I'm skipping around a lot, I'm not likely to stick with the book for very long.

I rarely skip or skim. If a book isn't interesting or entertaining me, I just don't finish reading it. I read to be entertained, not bored.

Hi Tristen!! Great answer!! I'm following you back - and I love your bookshelf banner!! :-)

I thought of some books that I originally skimmed b/c the descriptions were long and then reread later - Spindle's End by Robin McKinley was one. I appreciated the writing, but I had to see what would happen the first time through!!

Skimming I guess is a good option for when you have to skip. Thanks for dropping by my blog. I followed you back but I could not see my image on your GFC. I'll try my yahoo after posting this comment but if it doesn't work I'll add your link to my sidebar if that's okay with you. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

I totally skim over extreme wordiness and technical information. I usually don't comprehend all of it anyways because I get so bored.
