Review:
I read this book with my 2 year old and let me tell you she loved it . she takes Big Girls Go Potty, with her every time she goes to the bathroom ( we are in the middle of potty training so let me tell you this book came at the right time).  This book follows a little girl named Emma and her stuffed animal named Bear , as Emma is learning to use a big girl potty. The book was easy for my daughter to follow and very straight forward . You learn that Emma got to pick out big girl panties , and that when she goes to the potty like a big girl she gets stickers. My daughter loved the sticker part because we are using the same thing to reward her as well. I was really glad when it was explained that accidents happen and are a part of potty training . It was also wonderful to see that Emma's parents were proud of her as well in the end when she learned to go like a big girl. 




If you have a little boy that needs help with Potty training never fear .. Marianne Richmond has also put a book out for boys called Big Boys Go Potty 





Review:
Big Boys Go Potty follows a little boy named Daniel and his stuffed animal Lion. Like Emma ,Daniel   gets big boy undies and stickers for going to the bathroom . Daniel also learns that accidents sometimes happen and that you just have to keep trying . Through determination Daniel in the end learns to use the potty and his parents are so proud of him for being a big boy.

Both of these books I would highly recommend for any child who is learning to potty train . It was a wonderful addition for us. the illustrations were quite wonderful and straight forward, easy for any child to follow.

Today's Father's Day inspired Question is.....

 Who is your favorite dad character in a book and why?

My Choice would be Luke Garroway or Lucian Graymark  for the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. Though Luke is not Clary's real father he is her father figure and I love how he steps into the role .Luke has strong leadership skills...helloooo leader of a pack of werewolves.  He would do anything for Clary and is a better father than of course her read dad .. after all her real days is evil .

5 Floptastic Finds

5 Floptastic Finds

Floptastic Finds are books that you have either heard wonderful things about , everyone loved that book , or you were so excited to read a certain book only to find out that it was not Fantastic .. it was a Flop

       This book was a flop for me because honestly it was more about racial and biracial ties that the actual secret that was being kept . Half the time I wanted to slap the main character and tell her to get a grip on herself.  This could have been a great story but like I said the issues were not interrogated well and took over the secret part of the book.
If I Tell

  Another book that could have been great , I wanted to like this book but when you through in random issues , you ruin if for me. In this case the brother was homosexual , fine , great wonderful for him but don't make it seem like a random after thought. :( all in all this book for me was forgettable ..but to be honest I will check out the next book in series in hopes the author can pull me in. I believe in second chances.
The Way We Fall

Romance , Romance , Romance .. where art thou Romance?  Great idea , a bit of a flop on the follow though. This book just felt lacking for me , like it was missing something. maybe to much focus on just the religion factor and not enough filler in other parts? don't know it was just a dislike for me. 
Struck

  I can honestly say I did not finish this book. It sounded like a great book, murder, romance , intrigue all of that would have been great if it hadn't felt like I was reading a history book. Don't get me wrong I know that this book needed some of the history after  all they were deciphering out texts and letters but it needed a better balance.  I hardly ever not finish a book but this one just bored me ..sorry.
The Book of Blood and Shadows

 I am so very sorry to see this book on my list. I nagged and nagged on NetGalley to get this book ( so I will be reviewing it in full later) , and I loved the rest of the series, which is why I was so upset at this book not being great like I expected it to be. The love triangle was lacking , all the other books built it up and then if fell short in this one. I mean come on give me some romance for crying out loud . I love how author Carrie Jones intertwines lore and myth but in this book I felt like I was watching a rerun of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in fast forward. I will say though to end on a happy note .. this book had some great quotable moments.
Endure

I will end this Floptastic Finds with say.. don't just take my opinion and never check out these books for what you may like is different than what I like. Always enter reading with an open mind and find out if the book is for you or not .

This weeks follow question is .... more of a feature a fellow blogger of our own .. so I chose my friend Kary over at the Once and Future Librarian. the neat thing about Kary and I are we live in the same town and are friends , we share books  , we hang out .. it's fun to have a blogger friend so close. I asked some of the featured questions and added a few of my own .. to give you a chance to know the Once and Future Librarian

1. When did you start blogging?

I actually first started blogging in 2008 with a couponing blog! I also kept a family blog. My first book blog post was in August 2010. I started a project that I called The Newbery Project. I planned to read every Newbery Honor and Medal winning book (all 350 plus) and decided to blog about it. This sprouted into a full- fledged love of reviewing and blogging and I started The Once and Future Librarian blog in May of 2011.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

I love being able to discuss my favorite subject with people who are just as passionate about it as I am! My husband is not a reader, so he can only take so much of my book blathering, and not many of my friends are as into books as I am. I am very blessed to have my fellow blogger, Tristen of Totally Booked Solid, as my Real Life Friend, who lives within just a few miles of me – so we can get together to trade books, meet up to talk books, and IM on facebook pretty much every single day. Without her, I would probably drive my husband insane, lol!

 

3. What is your favorite book(s)?
You might as well ask my favorite child! I guess one of my all time favorites would have to be The Hunger Games trilogy. When I was a kid, my favorites included the Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary and all Judy Blume books (but there were SO many others….) I also really, really love anything by Ellen Hopkins. I’ve read every single one of her books.

 

4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Well, I always get that little thrill whenever I get an email from an author or publisher asking me to review their books. And an even bigger thrill when I get a book in the mail! And an even BIGGER one when it is signed or personalized! It’s just really neat to connect and communicate with authors and others in the industry. I love feeling like I’m a part of it, even if it is a very small part.

6. What blog posts are you most proud of?

Hmmm, that’s hard. I guess, one would be my first author interview. It was with Victoria Foyt, author of Revealing Eden: http://theonceandfuturelibrarian.blogspot.com/2012/02/valentines-day-with-victoria-foyt.html

7. What do you like to do outside of blogging and reading?

 

I like to spend time with my family: my husband and my kids, ages 14, 11, and 9. They keep me pretty busy. I like to plan activities for us to do together. I also like couponing and organizing – sounds exciting, huh? I’m also a full time college student, so I really don’t have much time for hobbies…

Fave Drink: sweet tea, and now that summer is here – SHAVED ICE!!!! My fave flavors have watermelon in the mix: melon/blueberry, melon/strawberry, melon/bubblegum, etc.

 

Fave Color: pink

 

Fave Place to Read: theoretically, it would be in a comfy lounge chair outside in the shade on a 70 degree day…or in an overstuffed armchair in a quiet corner of a bookstore…but realistically, it is my recliner.

 

3 Things Besides Books That You Are Addicted To: snow cones, like I said before, I have to have them a few times a week!!, facebook – I don’t know why, but I HAVE to check it constantly, and salt and vinegar chips – ooooh, I love that mouth puckering flavor!

 

 

If you were stuck on an island what are the three things you would want the most to have: definitely a nice stash of reading material, a nice stash of Ambien (because I do not sleep well in strange places), and….a lounge chair?

Review:
I thought this book was absolutely wonderful . The story follows a set of twins , Penny and Peyton as they celebrate their birthday with friends, an a pet emporium. Through the story you learn about each of the kids and what there special love language is . I found it absolutely delightful that a love language had been created in such a fun way for younger children . As I mentioned before the story itself was wonderful , but the book did not just stop at the story . Each page had a little something more for the child to interact with . Every page there was a hidden insect to be found and on other pages there were animals to find and name . If the story and the interactions were not enough, at the back of the book one could find a quiz so the reader can learn what their special love language is.

I would highly recommend this book to children . It was such a neat way to show how each child is different and wonderful in a special way. .

I would have to say two of my  secondary characters would have to be Lake and Dev from the Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
Lake is such a sarcastic, pool playing, gun toting gal, and a loyal friend . I love how she names her weapons. 
Dev is a loyal friend as well whose humor shines through no matter the situation. He is always there for Bryn and is her right hand man in any fight .

My reading goal is logged on Goodreads. Last year I planned to read 100 books so this year I set the goal of 150 books  . So far I have read 71 of the 150 so I'm doing fairly well so far. I also have given myself the goal of reading more non-fiction , expand my reading some. What about you any goals?
