Friday Daring You to Read

Link

So for Friday I have chosen to join the meme Daring you to Read. Where I get to pick a book I had read and enjoyed and I'm daring you to go read it :)

My book of choice today is the book Eden by Janelle Stalder.

Summary from Goodreads: Stuck in the cruel world of hormones and high school bullies, Aiden is convinced life has something more to offer. A stranger soon brings him to a world that co-exists alongside our own called Eden. Here he will learn to trust himself and those around him, as all of Eden finds itself on the brink of war. With the handsome rider Wolf, his sidekick Logan, and the beautiful archer Elisa at his side, Aiden will battle to save Eden and learn just what he is capable of.

Being the only girl in the King’s Army, and the Captain’s daughter, Elisa constantly feels the need to prove herself. It doesn’t help that she is betrothed to Wolf, who challenges her at every turn, and who she refuses to marry. With the new stranger, Aiden, now involved, Elisa finds her life even more confusing than ever.

Rose is a prisoner of the war, taken by the army from the North. Her captor, the exiled Prince Callum, intrigues her and terrifies her all at the same time. Now she must choose to either betray her heart, or the memory of her family.

Eden is packed full of romance, adventure, humor, and action.

Review : Hippo Says "Excuse Me"

( A Big thanks to Netgalley ,Author Michael Dahl and Capstone for allowing me a chance to read this book)

Hippo says "Excuse me" by Michael Dahl and illustrated by Oriol Vidal
Publish date: February 01, 2012

Summary from Goodreads:
"Hippo uses his manners to help a little chick.
"

Review: This was quite a cute little book , it follows around a baby hippo and it's mother as they make their way around town. The baby hippo expresses his manners by always remembering to use "Excuse me". I have a 2 year old and she loved the bright colors and the concept was easy to follow for someone her age . The characters were cute and humorous , it seemed the hippo didn't realize just how big it was . A wonderful way to show kids the importance of being polite. I give it four stars .

* I received this book free from Netgalley in return for my review and in no way was compensated for this.

First Date By Krista McGee

(A big Thanks to Netgalley and author Krista McGee for a chance to ready this book)

First Date By Krista McGee

Paperback, 336 pages

Expected publication: January 10th 2012 by Thomas Nelson

Summary from Goodreads:

Addy Davidson discovers God's unexpected plans for her life when a reality TV show turns her quiet existence on its head.

The orphaned daughter of missionaries, Addy is quite content to stay in the shadows and never draw attention to herself. But when she's selected for a reality TV show to try to become the President son's prom date-a show she didn't audition for-she's suddenly in America's spotlight.

The lights, the make-up, the competitions, and the blogs discussing every move she makes all make Addy incredibly uncomfortable. But through her time at The Mansion, Addy comes to realize that first impressions aren't always right, that hiding out may not be what God had planned for her life, and that her faith should affect everything she does. It may just be that her selection wasn't random at all and that she's on this show "for such a time as this.

Review:

I found this book delightfully wonderful. First Date can easily be viewed as what would happen if Queen Esther from the Bible was ever put on the reality show The Bachelor. In this book Addy , just like Queen Esther did not what the spot light , did not want to be part of the chosen. Throughout the book you learn form Addy just how hard it is to trust God sometimes, but that there is always a reason for everything. I also enjoyed the way that Addy had to remember that she was a Christian and that how she acted and spoke not only reflected on her but her Christianity. It would have been so easy for Addy to act just like the other girls and in some cases she did act like them when she got angry and spouted off. First Date would be a wonderful book for any young girl, it showed just how hard and sometimes nerve racking it is to show your Christian faith. The characters in this book were well rounded and thought out, the story line flowed. Over all I gave this book 4 stars.
